Short version: your files never reach us, and we could not read them if they did.
The app has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers, no profiles, and nothing sold to anybody. This website is a separate thing and it does measure which pages people read; that section is below.
Copy Shelter is made by Augustus Travels LLC. You can reach us at [email protected].
Copy Shelter encrypts everything on your Mac before it is written anywhere. The key is generated on your machine and is never transmitted, stored by us, or escrowed. We cannot open your backup, and we cannot recover your recovery key if you lose it. That is a deliberate trade, and it is why the app makes you confirm you have saved the key before it will continue.
Where your backup goes is your choice: a drive you own, a NAS on your network, or a folder in a cloud account you already pay for. Copy Shelter has no servers holding your data, because it has no storage product at all.
No analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers, no profiles, no selling anything to anybody. The app asks us once a day whether your purchase is still current, and that is the only request it makes on its own besides the update check. It cannot take anything away by failing: only a definite answer changes what you have, and backing up, verifying and restoring are not gated at all, so your backups keep running whether or not we exist.
Your purchase is recorded against your email address. To use it on a Mac you give that address, we send a six digit code to it, and typing the code back proves you can read that mailbox. The address alone proves nothing, which is deliberate: a checkout is not authenticated, so anybody can type anybody's address into one.
What stays on your Mac afterwards is a session token and your address, in a plain file. What we hold is your address, a hash of the code while it is still live, and the sessions you have open. There is no password, so we never see one.
Asking for a code answers exactly the same way for every address, whether or not anything has ever been purchased with it. That is so this cannot be pointed at a list of addresses to find out who is a customer.
We keep purchase records, which are your email address, the license we issued and the Stripe customer reference, for as long as tax law requires. Ask us at [email protected] and we will tell you what we hold about you and delete what we are allowed to delete.
copyshelter.com is served by Cloudflare. The demo runs in your browser. We count page views, store and download clicks, and demo actions by page, language, country and operating system. Only aggregate counts are stored, without visitor identifiers, IP addresses, browser strings or form content. These counters respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control.
The app collects nothing. This website is separate, and since 9 September 2026 it uses Microsoft Clarity to see which pages people read and where they get stuck. Clarity records the address of the page, what was on the screen, and clicks and scrolling. It is not tied to your account or your email address, we do not use it to build a profile of you, and nothing it collects is sold.
It never runs on any page that can carry a checkout reference, because what somebody purchased is nobody else's business. Blocking it, with a content blocker or by turning off JavaScript, changes nothing about how the site works.
This is the only measurement on the site beyond the request counts our host records for every website it serves. If that is not something you want, block it; we would rather say plainly that it is here than have you find it.
Copy Shelter is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. We will not quietly start collecting something this page says we do not.
